Watch Katy Perry Dodge Questions About Naming Her Baby Daisy Weeks Before The Birth

Katy Perry is officially a mom!

The singer recently welcomed her first child with Orlando Bloom. The proud parents announced the happy news with UNICEF on Wednesday, Aug. 26, noting they are “floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival” of their daughter. They also set up a donations page to support the organization in celebration of their little one.

So, what did the 35-year-old artist and the 43-year-old actor decide to call their bundle of joy? Daisy Dove Bloom! And if the name sounds familiar, it might be because fans heard it tossed around a few times throughout Perry’s pregnancy.

Earlier this month, for instance, Perry spoke with Entertainment Tonight Canada’s Cheryl Hickey and The Morning Show’s Carolyn MacKenzie and was asked point-blank if she planned on naming her daughter Daisy after her single “Daisies” or Harley after her song “Harleys in Hawaii.” However, Perry focused mostly on the latter suggestion in her answer.

“Well, these are really great contributions,” the 13-time Grammy nominee replied. “I’ve never thought of Harley ever. Harley is a great name. Harley Bloom? Hold on, excuse me, I’m writing it down.”

She then acknowledged the couple “had a little list” of names and noted she was adding Harley to her “forever list.”

Katy Perry And Orlando Bloom Couldn’t Resist This Celebrity Baby Name Trend

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have welcomed their first child together and they’ve given the newborn the sweetest name.

The couple opted to follow a baby name trend that has proven popular with other celebrities, by giving their daughter the floral-inspired moniker Daisy Dove Bloom.

It was the charity UNICEF that broke the news of Daisy Dove Bloom’s arrival, by sharing a black and white picture of the new parents holding their baby’s hand (we love Perry’s attention to detail with her cute daisy nail art).

“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” Perry and Bloom, who are both UNICEF ambassadors, told the charity in a statement.

“But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was.”

Fans had been speculating about potential name choices throughout Perry’s pregnancy, but looking back the clues she was set to pick a floral name were always there.

The biggest hint came via the lead single from her current album, Smile, released back in May, which is called ‘Daisies’.

The singer also recently admitted to liking X Factor star Fleur East’s name, with “fleur” meaning flower in French.

And, of course, the moniker Daisy also gives a sweet nod to the floral associations of Perry’s fiance’s surname, Bloom.

The new parents certainly aren’t the only ones to turn to nature for namespo.

Previously popular with generations of old, the trend for naming babies after flowers and botanicals has bloomed (pun intended) up once again.

In fact, in 2017 more than 10% of the most popular baby girl names were floral or nature inspired and that can in part be attributed to celebrities who often turn to flora and fauna for inspiration.

Leading the natural name trend are Jamie Oliver and his wife Jools who have named three of their five children after flowers and botanicals.

Their first child, Poppy Honey Rosie, kicked off the trend with not one but two flower-inspired names and she was soon joined by sisters Daisy Boo Pamela and Petal Blossom Rainbow.

Beyonce and Jay Z also gave their first born, Blue Ivy, a floral-inspired middle name. Despite choosing the traditional spelling of the common climber, the moniker is also rumoured to be a reference to the roman numerals for the number four (IV), which has significance to the couple.

Not only are the parents both born on the fourth day of their respective birth months, they also got married on 4 April.

Former Spice Girl, Geri Horner, also opted for a pretty floral name for her daughter Bluebell, after she spotted the flowers everywhere in the last few days of her pregnancy.

“What really clinched it for me was my mother telling me that the bluebell is increasingly rare – so it’s a precious flower, which seems just right for my daughter,” she told Hello!

The name Rose, has also proven popular with celebrity mums and dads with Scarlett Johansson picking the pretty moniker for her daughter, while Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis gave their daughter, Lily-Rose a double-floral hit, and Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen named their little girl, Briar Rose.

Not strictly a flower, but still on a natural name path, Olive has been a popular pick with many celebrity parents including Drew Barrymore and Isla Fisher who both chose the name for their daughters.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are other advocates of floral monikers, choosing Violet as the name for their daughter back in 2005.

Meanwhile Jude Law and Sadie Frost opted to call their daughter Iris, after the purple flower.

With so much botanical inspiration it is hardly surprising that “flower power” has recently been named as one of the most popular baby name tribes.
